Hi! I’m Liz, the new owner of what was formerly well known as Millie’s Used Books, and I am so glad to meet you!
In 2007, Millie and Earl Griffin opened the doors of Millie’s Used Books. They began in a building two miles south of Franklin, but as they expanded their inventory they decided to move the store to its current location. The bookstore has been a fixture in this spot for the past 10 years, consistently serving the Franklin community with warmth, a smile, and great books.
I purchased the bookstore in September of 2019, and in March 2020 invited the community to help me rename the store. “A Novel Escape” was chosen, and a new chapter (pun intended!) of the store’s history began.
Just a little bit about me – I am a licensed Veterinarian and practiced for 10 years before letting my inner child take over and buy a bookstore. The first book I can remember loving (although I read constantly from the time I was four) is Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. My favorite authors right now are Fredrik Backman, Eowyn Ivey, Kristin Hannah, and N. K. Jemisin. I have the best dog in the whole world – a Golden Retriever named Brody – who you will almost always meet as you enter the store. He is the official store greeter and he takes his job very seriously. I am wife to Bill and mom to Oscar, and I simply adore this little town nestled in the mountains.
I consider it a huge responsibility and a great honor to be able to continue the legacy of community and love that Millie and Earl built here in this lovely shop. Come by to say hi!
